The Chiefs have made the perfect start to their 2015 season, beating the Blues in a trial game by a comfortable margin of 41-20 at Toll Stadium in Whangarei.

Six Chiefs tries were scored during the match, including a double for winger James Lowe and a pick and go rollover by Ben Tameifuna.

Halfback Brad Weber also scored, as did loose forwards Johan Bardoul and Tevita Koloamatangi.

In the much speculated fly half position, both McKenzie brothers had 40 minutes of rugby each tonight. Damian kicked 2 from 3 attempts on goal, while Marty kicked at a perfect 3 from 3 during his stint on the field.

The Chiefs next trial game is against the Waratahs next Friday in Sydney.

From a Blues perspective, a performance to forget in many respects but they won’t have to wait long for redemption as the opening game of the regular season is against the Chiefs in North Harbour on February 14th.
