Fullback, and regular goal kicker Leigh Halfpenny ruptured his anterior cruciate ligaments during Wales’ close 23-19 win over Italy on Sunday.
Halfback Rhys Webb may also miss the tournament after suffering an ankle injury in the match against Italy, but the extend of the injury is yet to be revealed.
Halfpenny’s speed, footwork, and goal kicking accuracy would have benefited the Welsh. Insiders reported that Halfpenny was feeling hopeful until he received word that his World Cup was over before it had begun.
Halfpenny has scored 508 points in 62 matches for Wales.
