Call of Duty: WWII must succeed for gamers wanting a change

Call of Duty: WWII’s new trailer is set to drop as Activision announces their new shooter for 2017.

Call of Duty is one of the most anticipated, and scrutinised, games releases annually. Since its conception the series has radically changed styles, most noticeably in 2016 when Infinite Warfare took players into space. The decision was highly criticised because gamers felt that 1) there were already too many games on the market doing similar things and 2) it couldn’t live up the likes of Halo, the king of space shooters.

EA’s Battlefield 1 forced the hand of Call of Duty with its decision to go back to a proper wartime shooter. Battlefield 1 received mostly positive reviews, meanwhile criticism for Infinite Warfare only increased.

With Call of Duty: WWII, developed by Sledgehammer Games, the series has a chance to get a much-needed freshness added to it. Not only that, WWII sees Call of Duty return to its roots and will offer its highly successful multiplayer component something a little different too.

But that doesn’t mean a season pass won’t be available -leaks this week confirmed that gamers will have the chance to purchase additional content that developers say “enhance the experience”.

WWII will also feature a standalone co-op story mode that provides multiplayer experience for the games campaign.
